Alpage Festival in Grand Bornand

Each summer, Chinaillon becomes the stage for one of the most emblematic events of the Aravis. The Fête de l’Alpage returns to Grand-Bornand on August 2, 2026 for a day entirely dedicated to pastoralism, Savoyard traditions, and mountain life.

Organized in the heart of the alpine pastures, this event attracts several thousand visitors each year who come to discover the know-how that has shaped the identity of the territory for generations. The festival is now one of the unmissable summer events in Haute-Savoie.

A day to the rhythm of traditions

From the morning, activities take place at the Chinaillon site with a foot race open to both adults and children. An open-air mass then marks the beginning of the festivities before the traditional picnic meal shared in a friendly atmosphere.

Throughout the day, the public can discover numerous demonstrations highlighting the trades of yesteryear, the gestures of the agricultural world, and the pastoral traditions that enrich Grand-Bornand.

Lumberjacks, folklore, and a parade of floats

Among the highlights of the event, the lumberjack competition brings together some of the best specialists in the discipline, offering a show particularly appreciated by visitors. Folklore groups also entertain the site with traditional music and dances.

The afternoon is marked by the grand parade of decorated floats, a true institution in Grand-Bornand. Each edition revolves around a specific theme and mobilizes many village volunteers who participate in building the floats throughout the year.

Reblochon in the spotlight

It is impossible to talk about the Fête de l’Alpage without mentioning farmstead reblochon. A demonstration of its production allows visitors to discover the different stages of making this emblematic cheese of the Aravis, directly linked to the local pastoral activity.

Local producers are also present to showcase the specialties of the territory and share their know-how with the public.

An unmissable family event

Activities for children, sports, workshops, artisanal demonstrations, and even grass skiing complete the program of this great popular festival. The day usually ends with fireworks and a free dance, extending the conviviality late into the evening.

A true showcase of mountain traditions, the Fête de l’Alpage makes it easier to understand the essential place of agriculture and pastoralism in the Aravis while offering a festive day to be shared with family or friends.
