Ranking of Rural Cottages

Les Gites de France have established a classification of rural cottages based on their level of comfort, service, and environment. They are reviewed and reclassified at least once every 5 years.

  • 1 ear of corn: The rural cottage has a favorable environment with parking nearby, comfortable bedding, a kitchen with refrigerator and cooking appliance with oven and pressure cooker, an iron, an electric coffee maker.
  • 2 ears of corn: The rural cottage additionally has a yard or balcony or terrace with garden table and chairs, a relaxation corner in the living room, a washing machine sometimes shared among several cottages from 6 people onwards, a barbecue (except local exemption), a mixer, an electric coffee maker, a TV outlet.
  • 3 ears of corn: The rural cottage additionally has a landscaped yard in a pleasant and private setting, a living room with a seating area without bedding, a range hood, very well-maintained furniture. TV, dishwasher from 5 people onwards.
  • 4 ears of corn: The rural cottage is an independent house or has independent access in a characterful complex, fireplace, dishwasher, microwave, telephone, very comfortable furniture. Dryer.
  • 5 ears of corn: Private landscaped park or garden, provision of leisure equipment (tennis, swimming pool, sauna or jacuzzi), garage or covered shelter, from 3 people onwards, electric dishwasher and dryer, hi-fi system, VCR.
