La Clusaz: the Foire de la Croix celebrates the return of the herds on September 13, 2026

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, La Clusaz will revive one of its oldest traditions. The Foire de la Croix will mark the end of the alpine pasture season and the return of the herds to the village. Agricultural competitions, parades, craft markets, and entertainment will enliven this festive day that honors the rural heritage of the Aravis.

A tradition deeply rooted in village life

Every year, the Foire de la Croix brings together farmers, breeders, residents, and visitors around a key moment of mountain life: the descent of the herds after several months spent in the alpine pastures.

Organized on the Champ-Giguet, at the foot of the La Clusaz mountains, this event celebrates the end of summer and the work of breeders who keep alive the agricultural traditions of the valley. The event is free and open to all.

A day lively with local produce and livestock

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to discover farm animals, admire the finest Aravis cows, and attend several competitions highlighting the breeders’ expertise.

The program includes in particular:

  • the arrival of the herds in the village;
  • cattle and cheese competitions;
  • the traditional parade of decorated animals;
  • demonstrations of herding dogs;
  • a market of local producers and artisans;
  • musical and folkloric entertainment;
  • dining areas showcasing Savoyard specialties.
