Why do these piano concerts in Haute-Savoie mountain huts attract so many music lovers this summer?

Imagine yourself, at dusk, perched at 1,763 meters altitude, breath taken away by the raw beauty of the Alps, while the notes of a piano rise into the pure air, blending with the distant song of the marmots and the rustling of the wind in the pines. This enchanting setting is offered by the Bostan refuge, in Samoëns, for the fifth edition of the Bostan piano festival, from July 10 to 25. Six free concerts, under the starry sky, await adventurous music lovers, organized by the association Un piano sous les étoiles.

A unique sensory experience in the heart of the mountain

This musical event is anything but ordinary. As soon as you set foot on the steep trails leading to the refuge, excitement already rises. The air is crisp, the scents of alpine meadows intoxicate, and one can make out, in the distance, the silhouette of the refuge among the rocks. Here, music is not simply listened to: it is lived, breathed, shared within an exceptional natural setting.

Marjorie Vagner, founder and soul of the association, expresses it passionately: “Making the piano resonate where the peaks brush the clouds is to relight the stars in everyone’s eyes.” For her, every concert at altitude is a suspended moment, a magical parenthesis where virtuosity and contemplation entwine.

Logistical challenges met with boldness

Who would imagine seeing a grand piano fly over the alpine meadows? And yet, it’s reality: transported by helicopter, the instrument is carefully placed at the heart of the lapiaz and meadows, ready to vibrate under the artists’ fingers. Weather hazards, the night chill, humidity… everything is anticipated so that the experience is perfect. Skilled tuners watch over the piano, and in case of rain, the refuge’s dining hall transforms into a warm and intimate concert room.

I myself attended one of these evenings last year. I still remember the golden light of the sunset caressing the black and white keys, the respectful silence of the audience, broken only by the rustling of the leaves. The emotion was palpable, collective, almost sacred.

A festival that gathers and enchants

The previous edition attracted more than 1,500 people, proof that the call of the mountain and music touches all hearts. The event does not just offer masterpieces from the classical repertoire: it also invites discovery of contemporary creations and unprecedented performances, carried by passionate artists like Agua Fresca.

The festival transforms the mountain into a living stage, where each spectator becomes an explorer, each note an echo of the surrounding vastness. People come to be amazed, to vibrate, to share a timeless moment, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

A date not to be missed this summer

The concerts will take place on Fridays and Saturdays, from July 10 to 25, starting at 8 p.m. at the foot of the Bostan refuge. Access is free, the atmosphere friendly, and the invitation to total escape. As a bonus, a similar evening is scheduled on May 30 in Bluffy, with the participation of pianist and composer Paul Ketterrer.

So, why do these concerts attract so many music lovers? Because they offer much more than a musical performance: they promise a sensory adventure, an inner journey, and the magic of the mountain as a backdrop. An experience to live at least once, to feel the music vibrate all the way into the stars.
