A secret garden in the heart of a medieval village
With its cobbled streets, wisteria-covered houses, and its castle overlooking Lake Geneva, Yvoire is already part of the highlights of Haute-Savoie. But few visitors expect to discover, behind an old wooden door, a garden inspired by medieval gardens.
Created in 1988 on the site of the castle’s former vegetable garden, the Garden of Five Senses is designed as a true plant labyrinth where each space stimulates sight, smell, touch, taste, or hearing.
Today the place is labeled “Remarkable Garden” by the Ministry of Culture, a distinction reserved for gardens presenting exceptional interest botanically, historically, or scenically.
A sensory journey through more than 1,500 plant varieties
During the stroll, visitors discover nearly 1,500 species and plant varieties carefully selected.
Ancient roses rub shoulders with medicinal plants, fruit trees, forgotten vegetables, melliferous flowers, and aromatic plants. Each path offers a new surprise: here a scent of mint or lavender, there the rustling of a pond or the buzzing of bees attracted by the flowers.
Unlike a classic garden where one simply observes the plantings, this one invites you to experience a true sensory adventure.
A setting worthy of a fairy tale
The charm of the Garden of Five Senses also lies in its architecture. Pergolas covered with roses, fountains, clipped alleys, vaulted passages, little flowered patios, and shaded corners compose a setting that seems frozen in time.
From some points in the garden, you can even see the rooftops of Yvoire and Lake Geneva, further enhancing the unique character of the place.
In spring and summer, the flowering transforms the garden into a true palette of colors, while autumn reveals a more intimate atmosphere, with blazing foliage and particularly soft light.
Much more than a botanical visit
The Garden of Five Senses was not conceived solely for botany lovers. Families enjoy the playful trails, visitors take time to sit near the fountains or wander the many winding alleys, while photographers find here one of the most photogenic settings on the shores of Lake Geneva.
The visit generally lasts between 45 minutes and one hour, but many extend the experience by strolling later through the flowering streets of Yvoire, before joining the port or the terraces offering a superb view of the lake.

Come at opening time or late afternoon, when the garden regains all its calm. You will enjoy a much quieter visit, magnificent light on the flowers, and avoid the crowds that can be significant in the heart of this very touristy village in mid-summer.
