For two days, the Sommand plateau will immerse once again in the atmosphere of the Savoyard alpine pastures. On July 18 and 19, 2026, the traditional Alpage Festival of Praz de Lys Sommand promises a weekend blending mountain traditions, unusual activities, local crafts, and conviviality at the heart of the Haute-Savoie pastures.
A major summer event in the heart of the mountains
Organized on the Sommand plateau, at about 1,500 meters altitude, this festival is one of the must-see events of the summer in the Mieussy area. Every year, residents, vacationers, and mountain lovers gather there to celebrate life on the alpine pasture in a family and festive atmosphere.
Between traditional demonstrations, quirky activities, and meetings with local stakeholders, the event highlights pastoral heritage and alpine know-how. All set in an exceptional natural setting facing the Chablais peaks.
Original activities and alpine traditions
The Sommand Alpage Festival is not quite like other mountain festivals. While it retains the authentic spirit of the Savoyard alpine pastures, the event also cultivates a touch of originality that makes it a success.
On the program for this 2026 edition:
- presentation of the Eagles of Léman;
- musical entertainment;
- presence of local artisans and producers;
- activities around alpine pasture life;
- outdoor film screening;
- hen betting races and other unusual activities;
- catering areas and a friendly atmosphere.
Visitors will also be able to discover the pastoral world, interact with the alpine herders, and enjoy a weekend paced by mountain traditions and the bells of the herds.
An immersion in the atmosphere of the Savoyard alpine pastures
Beyond the activities, this festival is above all an opportunity to discover the unique atmosphere of alpine pastures in summer. In July, the Sommand pastures offer a particularly spectacular setting with their vast green expanses, mountain chalets, and open views of the surrounding mountains.
The event attracts families as well as hikers or visitors passing through the Giffre Valley. Many also take advantage of the festival to spend the day on the plateau, take a walk by the Sommand lake, or explore the area’s trails.
