You will have plenty of choices for your accommodation during your next stay in Haute Savoie. Indeed, many accommodation offers are available to you: good ones, average ones, and some bad surprises, fortunately very rare. But also some exceptional offers, not necessarily affordable for everyone, especially in these times of crisis.
We will list in this article the different types of tourist accommodation available in Haute Savoie.
Some departmental tourist portals offer a holiday rental section in Haute Savoie where you will find a list of quality accommodation.

- Hotels : this is one of the three most common types of holiday accommodation in our department. In all tourist towns and even more in ski resorts, you will find a multitude of hotels. Pay close attention to the hotel category. Even though, generally, the level of comfort is very reasonable, large gaps exist, especially in terms of services offered and prices.
- Tourist Residences (holiday villages) : they constitute an interesting accommodation offer, especially for families. With this type of offer, usually you will find, in addition to renting an apartment, many services, and even entertainment. Some tourist residences offer discounts for large families.
- Apartments : Here you find everything and anything. From a sublime apartment in an old Savoyard chalet to a closet in a cellar, the choice is vast. Unfortunately, the information provided about the rental property is sometimes very brief, and you must make sure to inquire well before any rental. If you rent directly from an individual, ask to see recent photos as well as as much information as possible. You risk fewer bad surprises by going through a local real estate agency, and the extra cost is not that high.
- Gites : Here you can distinguish several types of gites: stage gites, small houses or independent apartments in a large house, and group gites. For this type of accommodation, the only advice we can give you is to use gites affiliated with a large national network. The best known is Gites de France, strongly represented in our Haute Savoie department.
- Chalets : This is the type of accommodation that makes you dream when you come to the mountains. A Savoyard chalet made of old wood, with a fireplace crackling a fire, and you and your friends gathered around a good Savoyard fondue… But this dream unfortunately has a price! You can also find chalets that are divided into several apartments. The charm is the same, and the cost much lower.
- Bed and Breakfasts : this is accommodation in someone’s home. You have a room, breakfast, and depending on the case, the table d’hôte (you eat in the company of the owners). The comfort is generally excellent, as is the human contact. As with gites, we advise you to use the Gites de France network.
- Campsites : Here you have to be motivated. Camping in the mountains in summer is of course possible and pleasant; doing it in winter is another matter. Some campsites offer heated mobile homes that are suitable for winter, but nevertheless, it remains camping. And even in summer, you must not forget that the weather changes quickly in the mountains and that spending several days in a row in a tent in the rain is not ideal.
- Mountain Huts : Reserved for mountaineers, climbers, or hikers, these huts generally offer very little comfort. but that is not their purpose. In high season, they are often overcrowded and noisy, but they have the advantage of providing dry accommodation in “remote” mountain areas, which is their primary purpose.
