At the beginning of this season, it is helpful to recall some rules of good conduct to adopt on the ski slopes.
- Respect other skiers. Your behavior must not endanger them or cause them harm.
- Control your speed and behavior according to your abilities, snow and weather conditions, and the traffic on the slopes.
- Priority is given to skiers downhill. If you are uphill, you must choose a trajectory that does not cut off the skier below you.
- Give yourself plenty of room when overtaking a skier, in order to anticipate their movement on skis and avoid any collision.
- Look to the right and left, uphill and downhill before moving after a stop or at a slope intersection.
- Do not stop in narrow passages or areas without visibility. In case of a fall, get up as quickly as possible to free the slope.
- Use the edge of the slope if you need to walk up or down on foot.
- Follow the information, markings, and signage related to weather conditions, slope conditions, and snow status.
- Provide assistance and raise the alarm in case of an accident on the slopes. Make yourself available to rescuers if necessary.
- Give your identity to rescuers and/or third parties if you are a witness or involved in an accident.
And some additional rules if you practice off-piste skiing:
- Take into account avalanche risk flags and snow-weather conditions provided by daily bulletins on different sites. Adapt your route according to this information.
- If necessary, request additional information from the slope services. They know the locations and conditions perfectly.
- Be aware of your limits and your actual level.
- Never follow a track blindly.
- Carry an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel. And learn how to use them!
Have a good ski season everyone!
