Waxing consists of applying a layer of wax on the ski base. Its 3 main advantages are :
- Nourish the base so that it retains all its qualities
- Preserve good glide quality (longitudinal glide)
- Maintain good maneuverability (lateral glide)
Advice : before each waxing, clean your base using the wax remover. There are 2 ways to wax: hot or cold.
COLD : depending on the type of wax used, rub the wax block on the base (crayon method) or spread the wax with the applicator (spray or paste wax). Polish using the cork scraper.
HOT : much more effective, which increases the longevity of the glide:
melt the wax block into droplets by placing it in contact with the waxing iron.
Using this iron, melt and spread the wax over the entire surface of the base until a uniform film is obtained; move the iron slowly from the tip to the tail to get a homogeneous surface appearance and to allow good impregnation. Never leave the iron still (risk of delamination of the base).
Let the wax cool and harden at room temperature, then scrape off the excess with a plastic scraper.
Finally, brush (about twenty strokes) from the tip to the tail to polish the surface.
To choose the most suitable wax (universal or specific according to air temperature, etc.), refer to the manufacturers’ recommendations. It is advised to renew waxing as often as possible, especially if waxing cold.
