Alpine skiing – Equipment

Ski equipment has evolved a lot in recent years, especially since the appearance of parabolic skis, thus facilitating access to skiing techniques that were once reserved for very good skiers. Skis can be divided into 5 main categories based on their uses and the required skill level.

SPORT

  • You are initiating yourself to skiing or ski at moderate speed in snowplow or skidded turns, mainly on green and blue slopes.
  • You master parallel turns and ski on blue and red slopes. You link small turns and early long curves.

PERFORMANCE

  • You are at a good to experienced level.
  • You ski on red and black slopes but rarely off-piste.
  • You adapt your technique regardless of terrain and snow quality.

COMPETITION

  • You are an expert skier or competitor
  • You ski exclusively on pistes and seek performance
  • You seek precision and speed
  • This kind of ski tolerates errors very poorly; a high level of technical mastery is imperative for enjoyable skiing.

FREE RIDE

  • This is the currently “trendy” practice, synonymous with escape and freedom, aimed at a wide public of good skiers.
  • You are at a good to experienced level, seeking piste / off-piste versatility
  • Expert skier, the call of big couloirs is felt. Warning, helmet, ARVA, shovel, and probe are strongly recommended.

MINI SKI

  • Alone or with friends, expert or beginner, mini skiing is for everyone.
  • You will be able to easily chain small turns, rotations, and jumps.
