THE FIER GORGES: A NATURAL CURIOSITY

Desire for escape, for a complete change of scenery? Don’t hesitate any longer and choose the Haute-Savoie department for your upcoming holidays. The Haute-Savoie tourism site invites you to discover an exceptional place in the region: the Gorges du Fier .

Located about 10 km from the city of Annecy, the Fier is one of the most important rivers in Haute-Savoie. It took many years for the Fier to carve out incredibly surprising erosion phenomena. Open to the public since 1869, this natural site is one of the many treasures listed in the Alps.

The highlight of the visit: the discovery of the footbridge. From the start of the visit, the walker finds themselves plunged into the heart of the Gorges, suspended at a height of 25 meters above the Fier. Surprising but tremendously enriching. The footbridge invites the traveler to enter the bowels of the Earth. As the discovery unfolds, the visitor’s imagination is stimulated thanks to the play of shadows and lights revealing splendid faces in the rock.

The visitor can only marvel at and even feel a certain fear of the power of nature, especially when discovering the Giant’s Cauldrons carved by the river over millions of years.

A puzzling stopover awaits the visitor halfway through. They can discover a scale indicating the water height in the Gorges during floods. Once again, they can witness the incredible force of nature.

At the exit of the footbridge, the discovery of the history of the Gorges du Fier continues. The Clearing of the Curious, an arranged space, invites the visitor to continue exploring the site. Numerous pieces of information about the water cycle, geological curiosities but also geomorphological ones are available to the walker.

Both young and old will be delighted to discover the legends of the Gorges du Fier dating back to the time of the lords thanks to the Islet of Legends made available to visitors.
