The news has just been confirmed: the Plateau de Solaison, in Haute-Savoie, will be the finish location of the 15th stage of the 2026 Tour de France, on Sunday, July 19. A major event for this site perched at 1,500 m altitude, until now mostly known by hikers and experienced cyclists.
A formidable climb, worthy of the greatest Alpine stages
The riders will have to face a legendary ascent of 11.3 km at an average of 9%, with sections over 12%.
Already famous among fans of tough climbs, Col de Solaison promises a spectacular battle for the yellow jersey.
This will be the first Tour de France finish on this plateau, a symbolic choice that will highlight Haute-Savoie and its demanding terrain.
An exceptional spotlight on Haute-Savoie
For the department, this finish is a tremendous visibility boost. Images broadcast worldwide will show the Faucigny alpine pastures, the snow-capped peaks of Mont Blanc, and the wild beauty of this still preserved area.
The surrounding towns — Brison, Thuet, Bonneville, Mont-Saxonnex — are already preparing to welcome thousands of spectators.
According to early estimates, more than 20,000 people may gather on the slopes of the plateau to witness this legendary finale.

Expected tourism and economic impacts
The Tour’s arrival should generate strong tourism activity:
- valley accommodations will be fully booked several months in advance;
- local producers (cheeses, charcuteries, honeys, craft beers) are organizing to offer a “Village of Flavors” around the race;
- the community of communes is preparing a special mobility plan, with shuttles and temporary parking zones.
Officials are counting on significant economic benefits and hope to make the Plateau de Solaison a flagship destination for summer cycle tourism.
A major logistical challenge
Hosting the Tour on an isolated plateau is not without constraints.
Organizing teams will have to:
- secure the narrow and steep roads leading to the summit;
- set up spaces for spectators, media, and technical vehicles;
- ensure preservation of the natural site, classified as a pastoral zone.
Preparatory work will begin in spring 2026, in coordination with the Department and Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO).
After the Tour, a new lasting appeal
Beyond the event, the Plateau de Solaison could benefit from a true “Tour de France effect”.
Many Alpine areas that have hosted high-altitude finishes have seen their visitor numbers rise in the following years.
The tourism offices of Faucigny hope that this stage will encourage holidaymakers to hike, cycle, or taste local products throughout the year.
